Welcome to the website for the Thomas Jefferson High School Crew team. TJ Crew is a competitive high school program for both boy and girl rowers that competes successfully on the local, state and national levels.

Our men's first varsity eight has held the Virginia State Championship title for the last 10 years, and in recent years the men's and women's first and second eights have medaled at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and SRA Nationals (including for the men's varsity eight: Stotesbury Cup Champions and SRA National Champions in 2004, 2006 and 2007). The men's varsity eight competed at the Royal Henley Regatta in England in three of the past four seasons. TJ Crew includes over 120 TJ athletes with a strong spirit of good sportsmanship and hard work.

Prospective Rowers & Coxswains

Interested in joining the largest team of boys and girls at TJ and rowing on the beautiful Occoquan River? If you are strong, tall and have a good athletic work ethic, this could be the sport for you. Almost all rowers who join TJ Crew have never rowed before. Through daily practices with top rowing coaches, rowers get into excellent physical condition and learn rowing skills and teamwork. Crew is a spring sport, running from mid-February through the end of May, but if you are not participating in a winter sport, we highly recommend that you take part in our winter training program that begins in mid-November at TJ. In the Spring, the team rows on the Occoquan at Sandy Run Regional Park. (A bus will be available for freshmen to ride from TJ to the Park.)

We encourage freshmen and upper class novices (and their parents) to join us at our Crew Interest Night on Tuesday, October 14th at 7:30 pm in the TJ Cafeteria. We will also be holding an open house on Sunday, October 26th at the TJ Boathouse at Sandy Run Regional Park - come and try rowing with us!

For more information, read our FAQs for prospective rowers.

Students interested in rowing should contact the Crew Captains at TJRowing@gmail.com.

Booster Club

TJ Crew is managed by parents through the TJ Crew Booster organization, a volunteer organization of crew parents. For Booster questions, contact Teresa Zeng, President, at TJCrewPresident@gmail.com.

We need your support

Crew is a varsity sport at TJ, but unlike other sports, receives no funding from Fairfax County. Please support TJ Crew by attending our Yard Sale at TJ on Saturday, October 25th and Gift Fair at TJ on Saturday, November 15th. We also welcome your tax-deductible donations for the yard sale, and if you have a craft that you would like to sell at the Gift Fair, please check out our website or contact us at tjgiftshow@gmail.com for more information.

Returning Rowers

Start earning money points - the Grocery Gift Card program (order form) has started. Order by the 25th of the month and receive your cards at the next Crew Board meeting (or in the mail).
