Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology TJHSST Student Systems Administrators Dear incoming freshmen and students new to TJ, Welcome! Congratulations on your acceptance and decision to come join the TJHSST community for the next stage of your education. The Student Systems Administrators are glad that you are here, and hope that you dive right in and discover what TJ is all about. To help you with the process, we would like to tell you about some of the services that the TJ Information Technology infrastructure supports. Intranet - As you have no doubt already discovered or been told about, the TJHSST Intranet is one of the primary services that the TJ Systems Lab (Syslab) offers. The Intranet is where you will be signing up for your 8th period activities, and hosts your student directory which can list a students’ schedule, email, address, 8th period schedule, and Instant Messaging screen names. Email - All students are automatically given a school E-mail account which can be accessed at https://webmail.tjhsst.edu/. All users are given a 7.5GB mail quota, and have access to email and an address book. Students may configure a desktop client (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) to send/receive email by following these directions. Remote Access – The Computer Systems Lab (Syslab) allows remote access from outside the Jefferson network. Students can download PuTTY or any remote access program to connect through Secure SHell (SSH) to the remote access server (remote.tjhsst.edu) on port 22 with their school username and password. Students can also use WinSCP to transfer files between home and school. Mac and *NIX users can utilize the built-in `ssh` command (ssh remote.tjhsst.edu) to access the TJ servers as well. All users are given a 1GB quota for their “home directory”, but this can be raised on request.
Server: remote.tjhsst.edu Connection Type: SSH Port: 22
All users are able to access the Sysadmin website at http://www.tjhsst.edu/admin/ to check the current status of the Syslab’s servers and web services. You can also find links to other services that are offered to students, such as the software repository mirror and Sun Secure Global Desktop. Students may also use the Service Request Form to apply for a website, database, and other requests. As always, please feel free to contact the Sysadmins at: sysadmins (at) lists.tjhsst.edu if you have any questions! Have a great year and a wonderful time at TJ!
