AFS Server Slowness

Update 2009/03/08, 3:16PM: I received a report over the weekend that the AFS servers weren’t actually doing that much better during the day. I’ve finished the volume moves for now, and will wait to hear how they do tomorrow during school. We are in the process of getting a new storage array for AFS, which will triple the amount of space available, and will also increase maximum disk speeds from 160MB to 320MB. Update 2009/03/06, 11:39: The AFS servers seem to be doing better today. The volumes for the 2009 and 2010 classes are now split by last name between the two servers. Haafs1 has volumes a-m for 2009 students, and Haafs2 has n-z volumes – vice versa for 2010 volumes. This will be continued over the weekend, in attempt to keep the load of the two servers as low as possible. Again, thanks for your patience. –Trey Repetski, for the Sysadmins Please excuse us for the AFS server slowness from earlier today. I’m in the process of moving volumes between the two main AFS servers so that they’ll balance out (more or less). If AFS keeps being slow (which I don’t expect it will), we will evaluate the other options that we have to solve this in the long-term. Thanks for your patience! –The Sysadmins
