Counselor Chatter
Students have often asked us, over the years, what counselors do in the days after they leave. It’s hard, it seems, for them to picture us doing anything but sitting at our desks waiting for them to come in to share with us their latest triumphs or woes. We here in Student Services thought we’d share with our soon-to-be-loyal-readers what it is we really do in the days we’re here and they’re not. As hard as it may seem, we are actually working. I mean, we are having very meaningful conversations. About the presidential snafu at the University of Virginia (which keeps getting curiouser and curiouser), the latest Jay Matthews column in the Washington Post, and when we really run out of things to talk about, we come up with baby name ideas for Kate & William. (Is she or isn’t she?)
Just kidding, of course. We really are hard at work here, wrapping up one school year and planning for next year. Part of our planning process includes strategizing about how to make our services and programs for the TJHSST community even better for 2012-2013. To accomplish this, we called on our Surveys and Accountability Team for help. According to last year’s survey results from our Needs Assessment, it came through loud and clear that one way we could improve our services to the TJ community is by increasing methods of communication. Huzzah! Just what we counselors love most, communicating! So here you have it. The Inaugural Post of our soon-to-be-famous Student Services Blog (affectionately known in these parts as Counselor Chatter). We hope to use this blog to keep all our stakeholders as informed as possible about what’s going on here in Student Services-ville. Speaking of what’s going on here, we’re signing off for the summer! Stay tuned for lots of new, interesting posts in the coming months and see you in September!
