World Languages

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology World Languages Department offers 7 languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish. Our language programs emphasize reading, writing, cultural awareness, and (for the spoken languages) oral communication skills.  Students must earn at least 3 credits in one foreign language.  It is recommended that students continue in higher level language courses which are offered in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.  These upper level courses also satisfy the one-credit fine arts requirement.

Check out the TJHSST Podcast series, created by students in German, Japanese, and Russian classes. The podcasts can be accessed both via the TJ website, or by visiting i-Tunes. In i-Tunes click on i-Tunes Store, then podcasts, and type Loserteam in the search bar for the first German podcast, and TJHSST in the search bar for the first Russian podcast. This project was made possible in part by the Caldwell-Thomason grant.
