About the TJ Library
Geoffrey A. Jones Library

Hours
The library is open most days from 7:30am-4:00pm, except Thursdays. On Thursday mornings, parent volunteers supervise the library during JLC beginning at 8:00am.
After School Study Hall
PTSA volunteers supervise a study hall in the library most Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays until 6:15pm. Study halls are not offered on student holidays or early release days. Additional study halls may be offered before special events such as sports banquets. For information about study hall offerings that is updated monthly, students should log in the TJ Library Blackboard site.
Policies
- Food and drink are not permitted in the library.
- In an emergency, exit the building and assemble with the Library staff at the American flag pole in front of the school.
- Students may visit the library during periods 1-7 with their classes or individually. Students who visit individually during instructional periods are asked to sign in at the circulation desk so that we are able to account for our patrons in the case of an emergency.
- Classes led by their instructors and/or the librarians have priority over other patrons in accessing the library's computer equipment.
- The library participates in 8th period with 50 pre-signed students during each block for individual research or for research consultation with the librarians -- not simply for study hall or for group project work. Students must sign up for the library through the intranet or the 8th period office. We do not allow the admittance of students from other 8th period activities, even with signed passes. Other 8th period activities also take place in the library, such as the Book Discussion Group and Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB) meetings and training on research methods and database searching.
- All library cards are kept on file at the circulation desk. Library books may be borrowed for a period of five weeks. Reference books are circulated overnight or for a single class period during the school day; many reference books, however, are now available electronically and can be accessed from home.
- The library does not charge fines for overdue books; however, students with overdue books may not check out additional materials. Overdue notices are distributed by 1st period teachers, usually on Tuesdays.
- Additional periodical resources may be available through George Mason University or through an interlibrary loan agreement with the libraries of Virginia Tech. Article requests can be submitted in person or via email using the Article Request form available on the Librar's Blackboard site.
- The library provides access to computers, scanners, black and white and color laser printers, and a black and white copier. There is no charge for black and white print-outs; however, print jobs are limited to one copy only of no more than ten pages; there is a charge of ten cents for each page printed past the ten-page limit. There is a charge of fifty cents for each color laser print-out. The copier is coin-operated and costs ten cents per copy.
- All computer users are expected to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy for Student Network Access outlined in the FCPS Student Responsibilities and Rights booklet.
- A limited assortment of school supplies is available for purchase at the librar's circulation desk.
- Parent volunteers provide invaluable support and assistance in the library. Please afford them the same respect and courtesy that you would to any other member of our school's faculty or staff.
