About the Library

Due to the relocation of the library, please note our hours and policies below:

HOURS

The  main library is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The library computer classroom is open from 7:45 am-3:50 pm. On Thursday mornings, parent volunteers supervise both the main library and computer classroom during JLC. Parent volunteers provide invaluable support and assistance in the library. Please afford them the same respect and courtesy that you would to any other member of our school’s faculty or staff.

Due to our relocation upstairs, after school study hall is not scheduled at this time.

Students may visit the library during periods 1-7 with their classes or individually. Students who visit individually during instructional periods are asked to sign in so that we are able to account for our patrons in the case of an emergency.

In an emergency, follow the library staff down the stairs and exit the building by Gym 2.  Continue to the football field and assemble with library staff.

The library participates in 8th period with pre-registered students during each block for research or for research consultation with the librarians. Students must sign up for the library through the intranet or the 8th period office.  Students from other 8th period activities will not be admitted.

LIBRARY RESOURCES

Students can check-out books electronically using their student ID. Library books may be borrowed for a period of five weeks. Reference books are circulated overnight or for a single class period during the school day; many reference books, however, are now available electronically and can be accessed from home.

The library does not charge fines for overdue books; however, students will be held responsible for lost and damaged materials. Overdue notices are emailed once a month to student tjhsst.edu addresses.

Additional resources may be available through George Mason University or Virginia Tech through interlibrary loan. Article requests can be submitted in person or via email using the Article Request form available on the Library’s Blackboard site. Students may use the resources on campus at George Mason University.

The library provides access to computers, black and white and color laser printers, and scanners.  There is no charge for black and white print-outs; however, print jobs are limited to one copy of no more than ten pages; there is a charge of ten cents for each page printed past the ten-page limit. There is a charge of fifty cents for each color laser print-out.

Classes led by their instructors and/or the librarians have priority over other patrons in accessing the library’s computer equipment.

All computer users are expected to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy for Student Network Access outlined in the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook and by the TJ Honor Code.

A limited assortment of school supplies is available for purchase at the library’s circulation desk.

Food and drink are not permitted in the library.
