One Question
The 2012-2013 One Question is: “How does one balance the pressures of achieving personal academic success with the necessity of recognizing the fleeting nature of life and acting accordingly?”
-submitted by David Rice, Class of 2013
The One Book selection for the 2012-2013 school year is: This I Believe: the Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women edited by Jay Allison and Dan Gediman
This I Believe is a collection of 80 essays written by a variety of people from all walks of life, some famous, some not, who share the personal beliefs that have guided their lives. This book is a wonderful choice to open the discussion about the beliefs important to each one of us that help us maintain our personal balance between success and inner happiness. As Jay Allison says in his Introduction: “Understanding your own beliefs, and those of others, comes through focused thought and discussion…This I Believe is an exercise in philosophical self-examination in a public context. It rises from the grass roots, where people can begin to listen to each other, one at a time” (p. 6).
This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women can be located at area libraries or purchased through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and a local bookstore, One More Page Books in Arlington, that will give TJ families a 20% discount on this book. Book ISBN (Paperback): 978-0805080872.
