Summer Tech Institute
What: One-week Science and Technology Courses that explore some aspect of science and/or technology.
When: July 16-August 10, 2012
Courses last for one week. Courses may be taken in succession.
Hours: 8:30 to 2:00
Who: Rising 8th and 9th graders (these courses are intended for students who will be 13-14 years old on or before September 30th, 2012)
Registration: Registration opens March 12, 2012 at 12pm noon and ends June 12, 2012, or until the course is full. Students registering after the deadline may be considered on a case by case basis.
Academic Summer School
What: Academic Summer School
When:July 9-August 9, 2012
Hours: 8:00 to 3:00
Who: Currently enrolled TJHSST students. Incoming freshmen/ froshmores
Attendance Requirement: Students are required to enroll and attend daily for the duration of the course in which they enroll.
- Students taking year-long classes may miss a maximum of 2 days (780 minutes) of instructional time for any reason.
- Students taking '20th Century History' and 'America and the World Since 1989' may miss a maximum of 1 day (390 minutes) of instructional time.
- Attendance is recorded to the minute and all absences/tardies are counted with equal weight in the totals.
Registration: Students currently enrolled at TJHSST may register between noon on March 12, 2012-June 12, 2012 or until classes are filled.
Incoming freshman may register during TJ registration night on April 24 & 25, 2012.
Incoming Froshmores should make arrangements with their TJHSST guidance counselor to make arrangements regarding summer enrollment.
Special notes about Academic Summer School:
- Students who need Trigonometry should enroll online through FCPS.
- While all courses offered in summer school will carry the same high level of academic expectation as during the school year, weighted grades will not be awarded for summer school courses per Fairfax County regulation.
