Summer employment opportunities for TJHSST Students! Work at TJ

There are a limited number of positions open for summer IT work at TJ. The primary responsibility is to provide level one tech support for the summer school office helping with tv and vcr/dvd connections, projector display, computers not working, mobile cart assignment and management, printers and scanners. In addition, students will assist the IT staff in summer duties: moving computers, setting up computers, installing components in computers, testing infrastructure lines, checking inventory, and other duties as assigned.

Summer Tech Institute


What: One-week Science and Technology Courses that explore some aspect of science and/or technology.
When: July 16-August 10, 2012
Courses last for one week. Courses may be taken in succession.
Hours: 8:30 to 2:00
Tuition: $200 per week
Transportation: $55 per week
Refunds: Last day to receive a refund is July 13, 4pm. This applies to transportation as well as tuition.
Who: Rising 8th and 9th graders (these courses are intended for students who will be 13-14 years old on or before September 30th, 2012)
Online Registration: Registration opens March 12, 2012 at noon and ends June 12, 2012, or until the course is full. Students registering after the deadline may be considered on a case by case basis. No walk in registrations are accepted. Registration is done online only. Click here to access the registration site.

Academic Summer School


What: Academic Summer School
When:July 9-August 9, 2012
Hours: 8:00 to 3:00
Who: Currently enrolled TJHSST students. Incoming freshmen/ froshmores
Tuition: $820 (full year courses), $420 (semester courses)  
Transportation: $275 (full year courses), $138 (semester courses)
Refunds: Last day to receive a refund is July 13, 4pm. This applies to transportation as well as tuition. More refund information can be found here.
Attendance Requirement: Students are required to enroll and attend daily for the duration of the course in which they enroll.

  • Students taking year-long classes may miss a maximum of 2 days (780 minutes) of instructional time for any reason.
  • Students taking '20th Century History' and 'America and the World Since 1989' may miss a maximum of 1 day (390 minutes) of instructional time.
  • Attendance is recorded to the minute and all absences/tardies are counted with equal weight in the totals.

Registration: Students currently enrolled at TJHSST may register on March 12, 2012-June 12, 2012 or until classes are filled. Applications may be downloaded starting March 11. Completed registration forms must be turned in to Kathy Young in the main office (no faxed or emailed applications will be accepted). Registration forms must be signed by the student's counselor before being turned in.

Incoming freshman may register during TJ registration night on April 24 & 25, 2012.

Incoming Froshmores should make arrangements with their TJHSST guidance counselor to make arrangements regarding summer enrollment.

Special notes about Academic Summer School:

  • Students who wish to take Trigonometry online may register beginning May 7. Click here for the registration link.

  • While all courses offered in summer school will carry the same high level of academic expectation as during the school year, weighted grades will not be awarded for summer school courses per Fairfax County regulation.
