Bhangra, a dance form that originated in the state of Punjab at the heart of India, celebrates the harvest. Today, it is performed all over the world, especially competatively in USA, Canda, Europe, Australia, and India. The India Literacy Project and TJ Namaste together started a local high school bhangra competition,
Bhangra Bash in 2007 to encourage the same college and international level of Indian performing arts at the high school level. The India Literacy Project is an organization which seeks to improve literacy rates in India, especially for children, and all profits from Bhangra Bash go to ILP's mission. All schools in the Northern Virginia and surrounding areas are welcome to participate, and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Bhangra. All official event information can be found on ILP's website at
