National Young Leaders State Conference

Additionally, achievement nominations are awarded to select students demonstrating proven academic excellence and to those who can demonstrate extracurricular involvement, community service or other qualified academic and leadership achievement, such as students who have successfully completed the voluntary pre-college evaluations of the National Research Center for College and University Admissions' Post-Secondary Planning Survey.

George Mason University

Washington Journalism and Media Conference  
Other   Rising 12th & Up   Greater DC Metro Area   Cost   $1685   George Mason University has partnered with FastWeb in sponsoring this prestigious annual event. Participants in this intensive academic program receive college credit from Mason while interacting w/ some of the leading figures in the fields of journalism and media. The conference will educate and inspire young leaders from across the country through once-in-a-lifetime experiences designed to provide an accurate understanding of careers in this field. This week-long residential program will focus on key issues for journalism, including: Issues related to the First Amendment, privacy, and security; the relationship between old and new media; the challenge of accuracy in a 24/7 news cycle and the rapidly changing economics of the field. The base for the conference is George Mason University, with events planned at the National Press Club, the Newseum, the Kennedy Center, and the House of Representatives. While conference attendees represent high schools from all across the country, we are reserving a select number of spots for students in the Potomac and Chesapeake region. We invite you or your teachers to nominate your most deserving students. Nominees should be rising seniors, have strong academic records (with a minimum 3.5 GPA and/or be in the top 20% of their class), be of good character, and most importantly have a demonstrated interest and experience in journalism and media, and be exceptional representatives for their states and high schools. Your students will be notified of your nomination and will receive additional info on registering for the conference. Each school may nominate up to 3 students. Students who have not received a nomination may apply for a select number of spots by filling out the Self Nomination form. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received.
George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens

Annual George Washington Student Leadership Program

It will explore how Washington's legacy of character and civic responsibility remain relevant in our modern world. Mount Holyoke College

The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association

Hamilton Leaders Academy  
Internship or Research   11th   Other U.S. States/Outside US   Free     Hamilton Leaders Academy is a fully-paid 4-year leadership program that includes week-long summer training in Seattle and in Guatemala. Students apply for the yearly Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award, a $500 or $250 cash scholarship. Top winners are automatically enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy. Page Program  
Paid Job   Rising 11th & Up   Greater DC Metro Area   Salary   $20,181.00   While serving the House, Pages live in Washington D.C., at the Page Residence Hall, a few blocks away from the Capitol. During the academic year, Pages attend classes at the House Page School. Pages must be sponsored by a Member of Congress and be at least sixteen years old on the date they begin their term. All communication regarding the Page program must be made through the applicant's sponsoring Member. See website for more information.
West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference

West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference  
Other   Rising 11th & Up   Greater DC Metro Area   Free     The event is a day-long conference, held at George Mason University. It will address current issues in ethics, integrity, and leadership. Up to four current juniors may attend, along with one faculty member. Students must be nominated by TJHSST - see Laurie Kobick, College and Career Center. Delegates should be leaders and role models in the school.
