School Board Leadership Development Program  
  Sophomores and Juniors Only   Greater DC Metro Area   Free     Application to be given to Principal; Principal must deliver to the School Board by Nov 16, 2012.. Program to gain a better understanding of how the school system is governed. 12 high school students within Fairfax County selected from Principal nominees. Dec - May commitment.

Global Scholar Prep

UF Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership & Sustainability Summer Program- YELS  
Camp   Rising 11th & Up   Other U.S. States   Cost   $6000   Five week program at the University of Florida where participants will take 2 college-level courses, Exploring Entrepreneurship; and Social Problems & Solutions, and also complete 80+ hours of community service. In the past, at least 25% of students have received full or partial scholarships.
The Alexander Hamilton Friends Association

Hamilton Leaders Academy  
Internship or Research   11th   Other U.S. States/Outside US   Free     Hamilton Leaders Academy is a fully-paid 4-year leadership program that includes week-long summer training in Seattle and in Guatemala. Students apply for the yearly Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award, a $500 or $250 cash scholarship. Top winners are automatically enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy. George Mason University

Washington Journalism and Media Conference  
Other   Rising 11th & Up   Greater DC Metro Area   Cost   $1,925   The conference will educate and inspire young leaders, providing an accurate understanding of careers in journalism. Program will focus on key issues including: issues related to the First Amendment, privacy, and security; the relationship between old and new media; the challenge of accuracy in a 24/7 news cycle and the rapidly changing economics of the field. Each school may nominate up to 3 students. Students who have not received a nomination may apply for a select number of spots by filling out the Self Nomination form.
George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens

Annual George Washington Student Leadership Program

It will explore how Washington's legacy of character and civic responsibility remain relevant in our modern world. Teacher sponsor must be contact person with Mt Vernon and must attend with student(s). (will receive a stipend of $100). Sponsors are to send their reservations to education@mountvernon.org by 2/22/12. Please include "Student Leadership Program" in subject line, and include your name, phone number, school name & address, and name(s) of student(s).

U.S. Department of State / BoldLeaders

American Youth Leadership Program with Uganda  
Other     Other U.S. States   Cost   $350   3 week (appx) stay in Uganda in July and August 2013. Participants will take part in workshops, live with local families, experience life with Ugandan teenagers, as well as meet grassroots activists and community organizers. Fee includes $350 program cost, plus immunization cost ($125 - $300). All transportation, lodging, meal, visa and site costs, cultural activities are paid by BoldLeaders and The U.S. Department of State.
West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference

West Point Leadership & Ethics Conference

Up to four current juniors may attend, along with one faculty member. Students must be nominated by TJHSST - see Laurie Kobick, College and Career Center. Page Program  
Paid Job   Rising 11th & Up   Greater DC Metro Area   Salary   $20,181   While serving the House, Pages live in Washington D.C., at the Page Residence Hall, a few blocks away from the Capitol. During the academic year, Pages attend classes at the House Page School. Pages must be sponsored by a Member of Congress and be at least sixteen years old on the date they begin their term.
