Proposed Slate of Officers for the TJ PTSA Executive Committee for 2013-2014

The following slate of officers was presented to the members of the PTSA at the PTSA meeting on Thursday, May 2, 2013.

The proposed slate of officers will be presented for a vote at the general meeting of the PTSA on June 4, 2013. Newly elected officers will take their office at the close of that meeting. In the case of absence or inability of the President to act during her term of office, the designated order of officers to perform the duties of president are Michele Gonzalez as 1st Vice President and then Robin Hatanpää as 2nd Vice President.

Base School Delayed Openings

Base school delayed openings can be found in the Transportation Section of the PTSA website. Please check it for updates. There are currently 3 schools on the list with delayed school openings during the next couple of months, but that list changes frequently. If your child's base school has a delayed opening in the morning, they need to find their own transportation to their base school in order to pick up the TJ shuttle bus.

STEMbassadors Program

Parents and students, if you haven't already done so, please consider signing up for TJ's STEMbassadors program. We're looking to partner with about 200 local elementary and middle schools to identify opportunities for high school students to give back to their community; spread TJ’s love of learning; and advance science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.For more information, see our website at http://www.tjhsst.edu/~emglazer/stembassadors/, or e-mail stembassadors@tjhsst.edu.

TJ Diploma Requirements, Weighted Courses, and Other Similar Issues

TJ has provided the PTSA with a summary of courses required to graduate from TJ and a list of the TJ courses that are currently weighted by 0.5 or 1.0, for purposes of computing a students weighted Grade Point Average (GPA). For more information, click here.

At TJ's Back-to-School Night, the 2013-2014 TJ Student Directory will be available for sale or pick-up for membership bonus and pre-purchase sales. Between now and September 30th, you may PRE-purchase your copy by going to PTSA Online Purchase or, receive a free directory by becoming a PTSA member. It's quick and easy. When buying a copy for your home, remember to buy extras for your office, car and spouse!

Please read - TJ Letter Jacket will be on display and for sale ANYTIME at Burke Sporting Goods, 5616 Ox Road, Suite C, Fairfax Station, VA. The PTSA has arranged for samples of the young men's wool jacket with leather sleeves, as well as the young ladies' wool, hooded jacket in our school colors to be available at their store. You will also have an opportunity to see samples at TJ on Back to School Night, during the seasonal Sports Banquets and at select concerts throughout the school year. Re-register with the Grocery Programs — Now

Grocery Programs are a great source of funds for the PTSA. Please help us with this no-cost fundraiser. We currently have programs with BJ's Membership Special, Giant, Harris Teeter, Target, Bloom, and Safeway/eScript. This is an EASY way to raise money for our students without cost to you!! But you must re-designate TJ each School Year! For Giant, Safeway, and Harris Teeter, you can even give us the numbers and we will register them for you. For more information, see our flyer. Wish List

The TJ Library Wish List Program Could Use Your Support!

The TJ Library would like to update its print collection to offer a variety of classics, contemporary literature, and new nonfiction books for our students. With budget cuts, it is more difficult to purchase the updated resources our students need, so the PTSA has established a TJHSST Library Wish List on Amazon.com.
