The Perils of The College Drinking Culture

The next "Perils of the College Drinking Culture" forums are scheduled at:

We encourage all parents and any college bound juniors and seniors who have not been to this program to attend it together. For grades below 11, parental discretion is advised due to mature subject matter. The parent-student conversations generated by Perils are critical before students head off to college, or even beach week. Should you wish to preview an abridged version of the HAZE film, you can access it at the link below, but doing so cannot displace the value of being at the Perils program to hear the panel and participate in the question and answer period that follows the film. If there is no way you can attend with your junior or senior, at a minimum, please watch this link together:http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/haze_abridged

A question that surfaced at the last program is how to have conversations with your teen about underage and binge drinking. One resource is the MADD Parent Handbook for Talking with Teens about Alcohol. See the link below which is very helpful: http://support.madd.org/docs/madd_handbook_email.pdf

Similarly, please visit the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County's (UPC) website for links to information on the 2010 Fairfax County Youth Survey results and other information including listings of future Perils forums: http://www.unifiedpreventioncoalition.org/

We are grateful to the UPC and the Safe Community Coalition, for supporting our communities in deterring substance abuse and to the the McLean HS PTSA for sharing their information with us!

If you have any questions about these two programs, please contact our SCC liaison, Robin Hatanpaa at hatanpaa6@gmail.com.
