Mathematics: Real World Algebra Skills Refresher
Grades: 9-10 Credits: none

Prerequisite: admission into TJ

The real world applications taught in many Algebra 1 courses are not emphasized in the manner that is necessary for success in TJ math and science classes. This two-week refresher course will review the following topics with special emphases on their real world applications: algebraic properties, radical properties, literal equations, absolute value equations and inequalities, systems of linear equations, simplifying rational and radical expressions, graphical interpretation, and direct and inverse variation patterns. In addition, calculator skills will be reviewed including the use of appropriate graphing windows, the use of lists, tables and matrices, and the statistics editor. Finally, the Data Analysis topics taught in the TJ Geometry course will be reviewed. This course is open to all rising 9th and 10th grade TJ students who want a refresher course. It is a non-credit course. If you are unsure whether to take this course, please do the Algebra Skills Inventory. To register for this course click here.
