Background
At TJHSST, students have many additional resources available at their disposal. Students have individual e-mail accounts, provided by the school, which they can access using the POP3 protocol. Students have a free activities period built into the day, during which students can participate in over 300 different school-sponsored events.
In 1998, a former TJ student, Brent Metz, created intranet.tjhsst.edu, a resource which allowed students to view their activities online, using a web interface. However, the eighth period office was using an antiquated system, which made it impossible to make modifications to the schedule online. The next year, in 1999, another student, Roger Braunstein, improved Intranet, so as to allow students to access files from their Novell Netware accounts. However, most of his plans for Intranet were never completed, and the school did not know about the majority of his accomplishments.
