Eighth Period
For the past seven years, TJHSST has been using a database program called Alpha IV to manage the eighth period system, using a custom program to import the bubble sheets students use to sign up for eighth period activities. The system is very non-standardized, as it has restrictions on how activities can be modified, and at what points. Whenever bubble sheets are scanned in, everyone else working on activities must stop work first.
With the newly designed system, many of these problems have been resolved. First, the system works with a web-based interface, allowing modifications to be made from any networked computer, rather than a specific set of four in the eighth period office. The new bubble sheet program can process the entire set of 1600 bubble sheets in approximately 30 seconds, rather than the many minutes it took with the previous system. The new system has allowed for less tedious entry for the eighth period office, as students now are able to make modifications to their schedules themselves, rather than depending on an eighth period office volunteer to make the changes for them.
