The
Biotechnology Laboratory was established in September 1985 when Jefferson
first opened as the Governor's Magnet School of Northern Virginia.
During the 1987-1988 school year, the Biotechnology Laboratory received
its first group of juniors. They had elected to enroll in semester courses
developed with the intent of preparing students for senior research projects.
Since then, the laboratory has grown in conjunction with the historic surge
in new biotechnologies. With the assistance of its corporate sponsor, KPMG,
new biotechnology techniques are available for instructional purposes today.
Additionally, thanks to continued partnerships with firms located across
the Greater Washington, DC, Metropolitan Area, the laboratory offers outstanding
mentoring positions outside of the school building.
