AMERICAN NEWSPAPER
Developer: Benjamin Harris
The American newspaper became the chief source of news and other information in the nation. By the end of the revolutionary war, 43 newspapers were in publication. By the 1880 census, 11,314 different papers were being produced. The newspaper is not only a symbol of our nation’s interest in its affairs and knowledge, but also of our freedom. *Picture from Encarta Encyclopedia SOURCES: Barber, Phil. (2003).
