FIRST HOME REFRIGERATOR

Inventor: Jacob Perkins

  • Invented in 1911
  • An appliance, cabinet, or room for storing food or other substances at a low temperature

The first refrigerator was designed by William Cullen in 1748; but the first practical refrigerator was invented by Perkins. American inventors like Thomas Elkins and John Standard later patented improved refrigerators. Then in 1911, the General Electric Company released two of the first home refrigerators in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Many more modified versions of the home refrigerators were developed, including the Kelvinator, which was the first refrigerator with any type of automatic control.
