logs

Here you can check on the progress of my techlab.

January 13, 2004

It's been a while since my last update; since then, I've made a bit of progress on the weather station server software, now named JAWS (Jefferson AWS). Over winter break, I broke up the code, originally in one file, into logical, separate files, as well as building a Makefile. I then added additional funcationality, supporting some of the AWS proprietary networking protocol. Still left to do is implement an XML-RPC interface, so that clients will be able to connect and use the data easily. I also need to implement logging of information.

September 29, 2003

Made an xml template today.

September 22, 2003

Today I packaged up the datalogger to send it to AWS and Mr. Latimer sent it off. Hopefully it will come back soon.

September 18, 2003

After becoming a little worried with the data I was getting from the new anemometer, I emailed AWS and found out that we did need to send in the datalogger for upgrade after all (those 100mph wind gusts seemed a little odd!). As it was a Hurricane day, I wasn't able to send it out till later.

September 17, 2003

We recently received the new anemometer, and Mr. Latimer, Ben Gelb, and I installed it in anticipation of the upcoming hurricane Isabel. All was a success, and it seems to be working well, hopefully.

End of April through June

I got sort-of behind on updating this site (seeing as I'm updating now, and it's September 23...), but I made great progress - I'm able to parse all the current observation data as well as the highs and lows - most of the time, I think it's correct. All data is being logged to The Weather Underground as well, though in a rather hacky manner. I discovered, however, that there are several functions I didn't even know existed - by looking at the AWS weather server program. Whether they are necessary or not will have to be decided later.

Week of April 14

Spring break. Due to being out and doing stuff most of this week, nothing was really accomplished.

April 10, 2003

I was on a bus en route to Myrtle Beach for a band trip today. No work was completed, thus.

April 8, 2003

At the beginning of class, I made rescue floppies to fix the 3 computers which had lilo errors after yesterday's imaging fest. After that I continued adding sections of this site, as well as beating Rachael in end-game chess.

April 7, 2003

Today I started making this site. As it was a short day, I got nothing else done.

Week of March 31

I began to work on figuring out how the weather station data works again. The conversion factor for the data is very confusing, and I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Week of March 24, 2003

Due due a lack of motivation with the music idea, as well as the approaching end of the quarter, I decided to revert back to working on the weather station.

Month of March

Lacking any real motivation, I did very little work on my techlab during this period.

Week of February 24, 2003

We came back from Winter Vacation v2.0, then got dismissed early on Wednesday and were out of school on Thursday and Friday again. Again, no work done.

Week of February 17, 2003

All snowed out. Literally. Basically no work was done.

Week of February 10, 2003

Began to think about doing something with artificial intelligence and music generation. There are some interesting techniques available, and some TJ students have done work in the field as well.

Week of February 3, 2003

The start of a new quarter, new semester, and the start of my techlab class. I worked a little on the weather station, then decided with Mr. Holliman that the weather station idea is too simple. Must find something else soon.
