Part 1- 5 points
1. Explain "standing to sue."  How can one lawsuit represent a large number of people?  Is that fair? 

2. Describe the structure and purpose of each level of the Federal Court system.  Provide a few statistics to illustrate the activity at each level. 

3. What is the difference between original and appellate jurisdiction?  How does this concept apply to the Supreme Court? 

Part 2- 10 points

4. What is the value of and problems with the concept of Senatorial Courtesy?  Is Senatorial Courtesy worthwhile to have as an aspect of our government?  Why?  How does S.C. apply to the Supreme Court?  Explain. 

5. How does one obtain a writ of certiorari?  What does it mean? 

6. Lay out the step by step procedure that would take place with the case of Lamb v. Colglazier from its appeal to the Supreme Court to the announcement of the Court's ruling on the case. 

7. Very briefly describe the overall judicial philosophy of the Warren, Burger, and Rehnquist courts.  Which court is closest to your point of view?  Why? 

8. Write a short paragraph describing which judicial philosophy- judicial restraint or judicial activism- is best for the Supreme Court to pursue.  Explain why.
