As an integrated project with their Biology class, students in Mr. Leaf's TEC (Technology and Engineering Concepts) class studied various disabilies that affected the different body systems. In Biology, they were learning how the systems such as the circulatory, skeletal, and nervous systems worked; for this project they researched a disability that affected their chosen system (such as paralysis, cystic fibrosis, and asthma). They presented information about the system and disability in Biology, and, in TEC, continued to the next stage of the project: creating a web page about the disability.
During the research stage, the students used many sources, print and electronic, to compile the large amount of information required for their presentations. Print resources included encyclopedias, books, magazines, and brochures; some of the electronic resources used were ProQuest Direct (http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb/) , the Mayo Clinic Health Oasis (http://www.mayohealth.org/), and other web sites such as Cure Paralysis Now (http://www.cureparalysis.org/).
