Design of a Soccer Stadium
By
Derek Ng Sui Hing
Abstract
For my senior technology
lab project, I designed a soccer stadium capable of holding 15,000-20,000
people and complete with club boxes, locker rooms, and other amenities.
Within the United States, there are very few stadiums built solely for
the purpose of soccer; for many cities, teams in Major League Soccer (MLS),
the premier U.S. soccer league, are often forced to play on football and
baseball stadiums and try to convert them for soccer usage.
I wanted to design a stadium built solely for soccer and nothing else.
In this project, I made use of Autodesk Architectural Desktop to design
most of the stadium and apply the materials to the objects, and then used
Autodesk Mechanical Desktop to construct the dome-like apparatus that covers
a good portion of the stadium. All parts of the stadium had to be
easily accessible, and all seating sections had to have a clear, unobstructed
view of the playing field. The stadium itself was designed not necessarily
to hold the largest number of people possible, but to create a rowdy playing
atmosphere.

My
initial 1st quarter rendering of the soccer field; the field is created
with a field texture mapped onto a solid, and the ad banners set along
the field are created in the same way |

2nd
quarter rendering with the 1st and 2nd level seat sections added in; the
seating sections have an experimental metallic blue material applied to
them, and the estimated capacity of the stadium at this point is 10,000
people (a conservative estimate) |

3rd
quarter rendering with 1st and 2nd level seat sections all complete, the
beginnings of a 3rd level seat section, red club boxes in each corner of
the stadium, and bleachers added to most of the seat sections; anti-aliasing
is now set on high for better image quality |

is to be found at this stadium |
