Industrial Automation and Robotics

FOCUS

Students apply engineering concepts to design and production of automated systems using computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), and investigate the building blocks of robotic systems including sensors, analyzers, actuators, and drivers.

Students solve problems which are aimed at integrating the concepts of automation and robotic systems, electronics, computer programming, manufacturing and materials processing, while investigating the social, cultural, and economic impacts of automating a variety of systems.

"My project involved the design and construction of an automated submersible driven by a highly efficient dolphin-like flipper. Though I learned a great deal about my project area, the most important thing I aquired was an understanding of the procedures, problems, and strategies for conducting research for a major project like this." -Josh Fine, Student
