Lab Questions 2004

The percent of applicants admitted depends on the amount of staffing. Over
the past several years we have accepted about 55-60 students. 5 - 10 of these
students enroll in the mentorship program.
We normally have received about this same number students requesting our lab
as first choice, so generally you need to have us as 1st choice on your application
(we tend not to see the 2nd - 4th choice student applications)
We look for students who have good study skills and can work in a
self-disciplined framework.
A large part of our grade is based on the students' project development.
Currently student work is portrayed in a web portfolio.
Highlights of the Comp Sys portfolio:
- Research Paper: 15-20 pages, 4000(or more) words, in LaTeX, html, and pdf
- Technical Paper Reading Assignments - 2 papers each quarter
  - Use the Scientific Method in your research
- Code, Testing, Analysis: 20 (or more) pages,
- Project Proposal (1st quarter)
- Project Description
- Project Poster
- Oral reports, presentations of project progress
- Daily Logs, Weekly Goals, Iteration Reports, Gantt Charts
- Tutorial(s) for future students

- High performance computing, comparison of supercomputer, cluster, and workstation
