COMPUTER SYSTEMS RESEARCH
Fall/Spring 2004 - 2005

Welcome to the senior project in the computer systems lab.
Sample research areas are in computer graphics, artificial intelligence, physics modeling,
distributed computing, database design, datamining, and computer algorithms.

GOALS: The student in Computer Systems Research will

DESCRIPTION: With the extensive hardware and software resources available in the
Computer Systems Lab, the student will have an opportunity to explore
both theoretical computer science and computational science topics.
Students will be encouraged to
become involved in various science competitions
such as the Intel Science Talent Search, and state and local science fairs.
One credit in Technology Independent Research, such as this course in
Computer Systems Research, is required for graduation from Thomas Jefferson
High School for Science and Technology.

GRADING: The student's grade will be determined by performance on his/her
research project. Each student is expected to maintain adequate records to
support research efforts, and is expected to produce a formal technical
research paper. Grades will be computed on a percentage basis with amounts
varying according to activity or project.

ATTENDANCE: Since the format for Computer Systems Research is primarily a
laboratory class, students are expected to make up any missed time.
