Weekly Logs from the Second Quarter

November 6-8

This week I was only in class for one anchor period due to a teacher work day and a field trip. During that day I browsed the internet, looking for a different tutorial on Python, as the one I'd been using grew incomprehensible.

November 11-15

On Monday I decided to research PGPLOT, and added a description of the program to my web-page. I was gone Tuesday, and on Thursday I switched to a better tutorial How To Think Like a Programmer and continued with Python.

November 18-22

I started actually programming, and have a few sample programs running. These include: lists1.py, canvas1.py, change.py, compare.py. I have also done some general. I appreciate the new tutorial I'm using, but I will soon grow out of it.

November 25-27

I kept programming in Python, adding classes1.py to my list of example programs. Furthermore, I started researching GUI interfaces.

December 2-4

This short week I researched GUI interfaces and posted my findings on my site. I also wrote and posted my iteration progress reports.

December 9-13

I updated my logs, worked on the Canvas widget, and learned how to do screen shots. My major problem with the Canvas widget is that I have trouble with the format for the programs. I can certainly write functions using the widget itself, but developing a framework from which to call the functions… that is my major obstacle.

December 16th - 20th

Mainly I worked on code this week, trying new programs or fixing the old ones. Ah, the frustrations of Computer Science and invisible bugs!

January 6th - 10th

This week was all about Python and learning what to do with Canvas widgets. I also worked on my poster writing parts of the research and abstract sections.

January 13th - 17th

My poster is coming along nicely, and the colors are lovely: turquoise with pink and white! I also have a dancing stick figure, created on a Python canvas, which will go on the poster. I haven’t actually glued anything on yet because I ran out of time before I could cut all of the colored paper to size.

January 20th - 24th

I was only in class for one day this week due to MLK Jr. Day and a doctor’s appointment. I spent Thursday doing more to my poster, especially concentrating on the ‘Model’ section.
