Title ~

Retail Store Item Tracking and Ordering System

Abstract ~

In every business, it is crucial to keep up supply and demand. Many retail stores however do not have modern applications for shipments, which would save time and energy. Furthermore, with faster information transfers, the company would be able to track inventory and would also know when shipments would be arriving and this is vital information for customers.
A major disadvantage in older retail stores is that they are behind in technology and therefore have no quick and efficient way of dealing with inventory and shipments. Their current method of "paper and pen" check-in is not only time consuming, but also leads to multiple discrepancies. An on-line version would prove helpful for these businesses, not only in inventory control, but also with customer service.

Background ~

An on-line version of inventory control would include multiple options for the company. Companies would have access to types of accounts, one for the stores and one for the distribution center. Each account will have different options; the stores will be able to check-in shipments, view inventory, order items, and to check email, while the distribution center will be able to send shipments, view and modify inventory, receive orders, and check email. The two accounts will be connected so that information can be quickly passed between the two for heightened productivity.
A database will be used to keep track of the inventory. The easiest and simplest way to interface between this database and the on-line user will be to use HTML and PHP. This allows for easy integration between the database and the website of use, while also being as user-friendly for the employees of the business.
