Supercomputer Applications Research

National Center for Supercomputing Applications
  - Atmospheric Discovery -- projects for atmospheric modeling applications

Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
  - Gas Turbine Combustor Simulations -- This project uses computational fluid dynamics with a Cray T3E supercomputer to simulate a combustion chamber for methane gas.
  - Simulation of the Aachen experimental turbine -- The project uses computational fluid dynamics to simulate the airflow through an experimental jet turbine.

Audi Orders a Fujitsu Supercomputer -- Audi ordered a Fujitsu supercomputer in 1998 in order to test vehicle design safety, security, and comfort. The use of the supercomputer was expected to shorten design time for new models by allowing testing in a virtual environment.
