Introduction

Once upon a time, TJHSST won a supercomputer in a competition, and they created a class called Supercomputing Applications to take advantage of this new equipment, and all was well. But one day the plumbing spring a leak and turned that supercomputer into the Gigantic Electrical Trap of Death (TM)*. When the computer gurus in the lab saw the repair bill, they said, "Hey, for this type of money, we could buy a bunch of cool new computers instead." And they did. But the masses cried out, "What about our supercomputing class?" Then the Lab Director came and said "With These New Computers, You Can Do All You Could On The Old Supercomputer, And More." And they did. And it was good. Within these pages is a record of a journey through that magical world, the world of Supercomputing Without Supercomputers.
